The holidays are here and I couldn’t be more excited! From office Christmas parties to a friend’s holiday party it may seem like an excuse to splurge on your favorite naughty foods and cocktails. If you do this all month long, you’ll be paying the price come January. I am not saying skip the party, just be smart about your decisions. Don’t let one splurge spiral you out of control – let it go and recommit to your healthy eating habits right away.
Below are a few tips to enjoy this holiday season the #HealthyWithNedi way!
-
Keep it Low Carb
Instead of making a huge bowl of pasta for the family gathering, try using a lower in carb alternative like spaghetti squash or zoodles. Even better, impress them with a pizza – but not just any pizza. Make a cauliflower crust pizza, top it with your favorite marinara sauce, veggies and cheese. No-one will be able to tell the difference and they will be beyond impressed. It will cut the calories and carbs in half and won’t leave anyone feeling bloated!
-
Lighten Up on Cocktails
Alcoholic beverages can be very high in sugar and calories. Steer clear of sugary mixed cocktails and sip on something like wine or vodka on the rocks with lime and a splash of soda. Try the Nedi Martini, it is light, refreshing, sugar-free and zero carbs!
-
Drink Water
It is really important to stay hydrated, especially when drinking alcohol. Aim to drink three liters of water per day to help your liver flush out toxins.
-
Portion Control
The protein and carbs on your plate should be no bigger than the size of your palm. Load up on green veggies such as asparagus and broccoli! Vegetables are a natural diuretic and won’t make you feel bloated.
-
Chew Slowly
I cannot stress this enough, it is so important to chew each mouthful at least 20 times. Eating fast is a recipe for disaster (think bigger waistline), and who wants that!? It takes our brain 20 minutes to realize we are full, so take your time and savor each bite slowly.
-
Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind
Send your guests home with food-filled tupperware so you are not tempted to snack on all the leftovers!
-
Don’t Swear Off Desserts
Enjoy sweet treats in moderation by savoring your favorite holiday dessert mindfully. Don’t go overboard, order a dessert, but take just a few bites and then put it down. Better yet, make your own! Try my gluten-free apple crumble or raspberry chocolate cake.
-
Be A Social Butterfly
Focus on the real reason for the silly season. Mingle with friends, slow down and appreciate the company you are in. The holidays are all about celebrating family, friends, love, and happiness!
Happy Holidays my loves! xx
