Interview with The Skinny Confidential

By Nedi · On February 25, 2018

I got a chance to interview my girl Lauryn Evarts and beyond excited to share what I learned with you guys! Lauryn is the creator of The Skinny Confidential, a lifestyle brand and blog where she shares everything from beauty secrets to diet tips! She is an author, hosts a podcast and is a true BOSS BABE! We met several months ago during lunch at Cipriani and instantly fell in love with each other. I admire her so much and am thrilled to share all her beauty tips & tricks with you guys!

What are your favorite ways to reset after a night out?

After a few too many skinny margaritas it’s essential to drink TSC hangover elixir when I wake up. It’s a LIFESAVER. I MEAN, I’ve had my fair share of hangovers and this really, really helps. So, I start with that, chug some extra water and try to get moving. This can be hard if you’re feeling like shit but it’s so important to get the blood flowing so you can reset. Typically I’ll take Pixy and Boone (our two Chihuahuas) out for a walk. Simple movements. I also love walking on the treadmill returning e-mails, facials, the sauna, & lymphatic drainage for self-care too.

You are working on a new workout plan with Kim Kelly, what is your favorite part about it?

WHERE TO BEGIN! The new workout plan takes all of Kim’s killer moves & creates an easy to follow workout guide that is buildable & tailored to the user. This means you can start with zero experience and as you gain strength easily adjust the workouts. It’s also INSANE if you train regularly because she provides tons of options for modifying to make the moves harder. Ultimately, I love it because it’s efficient & EFFECTIVE. The food is all for the girl who’s G2G. Lots of healthy, fiber-filled meals that I eat when I’m running late. You can check it out here.

You are so busy with TSC, but always look so gorgeous and relaxed! What are your self-care secrets?

HA! I don’t know about relaxed- I’m kind of always crazed. But I try to never say I’m too busy– busy is a discussion. I’m big on sleep & self-care. It’s important that I start my day from a calm & centered place. I’m HUGE on vibes. I like to start my day with tangerine and lemon essential oils & end with lavender. The citrus stimulates you and the lavender calms you. YES PLZ. They can really shift your mood. I even like to spray my dogs with oils. I also start the day with ‘The Morning Pages’- it’s where you write down everything on your mind for 3 pages. When you finish, all of those random thoughts have left your mind which creates more space for creativity and focus. Also a lot of acupuncture, facials (once a week- they’re my obsession), chiropractic care, yoga, & workouts help too.

Your skin looks amazing! What beauty products should we be using in 2018?

Thank you! Oils, oils, oils! And a quality serum. I use oils for everything- from taking off my makeup to reducing discoloration. They are gentle on the face, natural AND cheap. Also invest in a quality serum. They will penetrate your skin on a deeper level and when activated with the right ingredients really improve the overall texture of your skin and prevent signs of aging. I don’t spend money on handbags, I spend money on my skin. Leading with SKIN IS KEY FOR ME!

What about services? What is your favorite facial for instance? Anything new we should all be adding to our skincare routine?

2018 is all about facial massage, oils and a quality serum. After a gnarly jaw surgery my face was swollen beyond belief. No joke I looked like Smeagol from Lord of The Rings. Now I’m obsessed with facial massage. You can easily do this at home with just your hands. My favorite way is to use the Clarisonic Profile Smart Uplift. It de-bloats your face by stimulating the lymph system. If you want contoured cheekbones like Kim K. then facial massage is a must. Prevention is key & a little Botox never hurt a flea. LOL. My facials always have: facial massage, organic herbs, lymphatic drainage, Vitamin C, a mask, & maybe a peel if I don’t have an event. LOVE micro-needling too.

And foods? What should we be eating to get glowing skin like yours?

If you really want glowing skin, make sure you’re hydrated. There’s nothing more crucial. Adding chlorophyll to your water will really provide an extra boost! As far as food goes it really is the obvious: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. Make sure you are eating enough dark, leafy greens, & avoiding processed foods. ALSO! AS NEDA & TANYA KNOW: I love fiber. I eat a lot of fiber after learning how important it is from those two gurus. You can focus on foods with a high-water content like cucumbers, watermelon & celery to increase your hydration for even plumper skin. THE KEY WITH SKIN: is rinse & repeat. Meaning it takes work. I work on my skin like I work on my body.

Walk us through a day of your diet.

Every morning I start with the TSC Pink Detox Drink. It’s an intense, spicy apple cider vinegar drink. This helps get my day started with major hydration and kicks my metabolism into gear. After that I’ll make a green smoothie and eat some scrambled eggs with GG crackers. If I get hungry before lunch, I’ll snack on some almonds. For lunch it really depends- it’s usually fiber with berries & Greek yogurt or GG pizza. Whether we’re in meetings, traveling or shooting content, lunch is typically on the go. This is when substitutions become important. I love eating GG crackers with lox, capers, onions and tomatoes too. Spicy egg salad is my best friend (I LOVE ADDING CORNISHONS). Cauliflower rice is insane too – I make the stir-fry from Trader Joe’s & add lemon, chili flakes, a little liquid aminos, & broccoli. Speaking of cauliflower, I LOVEEEEE CAULIFLOWER PIZZA. Lately we’ve been enjoying cauliflower crust pizza with arugula, pears, & Rao’s spicy sauce. It’s addicting! When I’m craving something sweet you can find me snacking on dark chocolate chips…or red wine…or tequila with grapefruit ; ).

Any favorite diet tips?

It’s all about lifestyle. I’m not a fan of dieting. 2018 is all about creating sustainable habits that will work with you for the long term. FIBER is HUGE. If you’re not getting enough fiber, start now. Mix it with protein if you want to really kick it up a notch. I’m addicted to GG crackers and take them everywhere. Literally I’ll pull them out in restaurants to make sure I’m eating enough fiber. Fiber keeps you fuller longer and speeds up your metabolism because of the way your body digests it. You can learn all about fiber from Tanya Zuckerbrot on TSC Him & Her Show. She goes into all the science behind why it works and why it’s essential, especially if you want to lose weight. AND NEDA: you have the most amazing fiber tips! I always add greens to whatever I’m eating, drink lots of water, & stay away from cocktail mixes. CHEERS!
