This is a great dessert to make for the holidays. With their sweet flavor and firm texture, pears taste incredible when poached. These juicy gems are pretty healthy for you too. Pears are one of the highest fiber fruits, offering 6 grams per one. Being so high in fiber, eating pears may help decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Poached Pears with Cream Sauce
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS
- 6 medium pears, peeled
- 1 bottle sweet wine, I like to use Moscato
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- zest of 2 lemons
- 8 oz mascarpone cheese
DIRECTIONS
- STEP 1. Place pears, wine, vanilla, and lemon zest in a large pot and bring to a boil. Once it boils, reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 25 minutes, until the pears are tender.
- STEP 2. Remove pears and add the mascarpone cheese to the pot. Bring up to a boil and simmer, until the liquid is reduced by half.
- STEP 3. Serve pear in a shallow bowl and spread the sauce out evenly over all of the pears. Serve at room temperature.
This looks absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to try them! Would it be better to use firm pears for this or soft pears?
Thank you!!
Thank you, they are so delicious. Either works for the recipe!
