Plant-based food is delicious whether you are vegan or not. Luckily, NYC has an amazing selection of vegan restaurants all the way from casual bodegas to fine-dining. This is my go-to list for the best plant-based spots in the city. Whether you’re looking for a casual brunch spot or for an upscale dining experience, this list includes all of my favorite options that even your non-vegan friends will love!
Casual:
Bonberi Bodega – This plant-based bodega has a nice variety of healthy take-out options. Their juices, bowls, soups, snacks and even natural beauty products are perfect for those of us who are constantly on the go!
Peacefood Cafe – This modern spot offers a large variety of comforting vegan food. Their menu has everything from soups and salads to vegan pizza and sushi. Don’t miss their award-winning chickpea fries!
By Chloe – By Chloe is infamous for its unique take on vegan fast food. This casual spot has an indulgent selection of veggie burgers, pasta, sandwiches, baked goods, and a seasonal menu. Their guac burger and air-fried sweet potato fries are delicious.
The Butcher’s Daughter – One of NYC’s favorite brunch spots with healthy and delicious plant-based options. Their smashed avocado toast is one of the best in the city, and their coconut yogurt parfait is the best if you want something on the sweet side!
Divya’s Kitchen – Diviya’s take on casual, plant-based Ayurvedic dishes are perfect for a truly nourishing and nutritious meal. Their innovate menu includes healthier alternatives of favorite dishes like lasagna and risotto.
Beyond Sushi – Who says sushi can’t be vegan? Beyond Sushi is a great option if you want a light and quick bite. Their unique rolls, like the “favacado” and the “mighty mushroom,” are delicious and healthy.
Franchia – This casual approach to vegan Asian-fusion dining is a great option for dinner with friends and family. Along with their creative menu, they also offer an amazing selection of teas.
Le Botaniste – This organic food and wine bar is a great option for a casual and affordable plant-based lunch. Their take-out options are also a good choice for someone who’s on-the-go but wants a healthy meal. Try their vegetable tajine bowl and their green pea hummus!
Trendy:
Plant Food and Wine – This classic vegan restaurant in the East Village serves a wonderful selection of locally sourced and seasonally picked ingredients. Their dishes are not only beautifully presented, but also delicious and Nedi-Approved. Their Kelp Noodle Cacio e Pepe is a must order!
Cafe Clover – Cafe Clover’s sophisticated and cozy atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for a delicious plant-based dinner with friends or a date. Their seasonal and locally sourced menu has a selection of Nedi-Approved dishes like the chickpea spaghetti and roasted cauliflower entrees.
Ladybird – Ladybird is a trendy plant-based tapas restaurant in the heart of East Village. Some of my favorites include the beet and avocado ceviche and the sun-dried tomato tart. They also have an amazing selection of crafted cocktails that are perfect for a girls night out!
Dirt Candy – This stylish restaurant completely transformed what it means to eat vegetables — which are the only ingredients they serve. Their beautiful presentation and delicious dishes create a unique, vegetarian fine-dining experience. Their mushroom mousse and Brussels sprout tacos are must tries!
abcV – abcV is one of my favorite spots in the city! Its chic and sophisticated ambiance, spectacular vegetarian menu and great drinks make it the perfect spot for a night out with friends or a date. Make sure to try their famous roasted cauliflower and the mushroom walnut bolognese!
Jajaja – Regardless of whether you’re vegan or not, this fun Mexican restaurant in the Lower East Side is incredible! I recommend the Hearts of Palm Ceviche, Nachos, Guacamole, Chorizo Burrito, Mescal Mushroom Tacos, and Tumeric Cauliflower Rice Bowl.
Double Zero – Double Zero is hands-down the best vegan pizza spot in the city. Their wood-fired pizzas are served with delicious toppings and nut-based cheeses, like cashew mozzarella. Their menu also includes non-pizza options like mushroom pappardelle and funghi agridolce. My favorite pizzas are the Spicy Marinara Arrabbiata and the Truffle Cashew Cream!
Blossom – Blossom offers incredible plant-based alternatives of classic dishes and uses top quality, locally sourced ingredients. Make sure to try their mushroom scallops, the crispy artichoke, and the seitan piccata!
XYST – This rustic and cozy spot serves the best Mediterranean inspired vegan food. Their fireplace and small patio make it the ideal place for an intimate meal. I recommend the Za’atar Roasted Carrots, Smoked Hummus, Green Pea and Fava Falafel, and the Grilled Eggplant.
NIX – this upscale vegan spot in Greenwich village features innovative dishes by Michelin-star chef John Fraser. Their menu has “lighter” and “bolder” options that are typically meant to be shared. Come here for a lively atmosphere and flavorful plates such as the spicy tofu and miso-honey avocado!
Bar Verde – This contemporary spot in East Village is another great option for vegan Mexican food. Their selection of sharing plates and a variety of organic and sustainable drinks are perfect for a fun group lunch or dinner!
